Persimmon is a member of the ebony family, and is frequently dyed black to resemble the black typical of most ebonies. The wood is light yellow in color, with specks of black and occasional streaks of black mixed throughout. The wood turns and carves very well when green, yet is extremely hard and durable once dried. Has some tendency to warp more than other woods, but is not very likely to develop cracks or surface checks during the drying process.
