Granadillo—often referred to as Mexican Rosewood—is a dense exotic hardwood prized for its rich color, fine grain, and excellent durability. The wood typically ranges from orange-brown to deep reddish-brown, frequently accented with darker streaks and dramatic contrast.
Granadillo turns very cleanly with sharp tools, producing crisp detail and smooth surfaces. Its fine, dense grain and natural oils allow it to sand and polish to a high luster, making it ideal for precision and high-end turning projects. When properly dried, granadillo is very stable and highly wear-resistant.
Common uses include turning blanks, pens, tool handles, knife scales, musical instruments, and decorative turnings.
