Wenge (Millettia laurentii) is a bold African hardwood prized for its dramatic dark color and striking grain. The wood ranges from very dark brown to nearly black, often highlighted by lighter brown or tan streaks that create strong visual contrast.
Wenge turns best with sharp tools and controlled cuts, producing crisp detail and clean surfaces. Its coarse, open grain gives it a distinctive texture and allows it to finish to a deep, rich appearance when properly filled and polished. When properly dried, wenge offers excellent strength and stability.
Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, spindles, pens, tool handles, furniture accents, and decorative turnings.
Special Note:
Care should be taken to avoid touching pieces while turning, as splinters are common prior to sanding.

Wenge Wood Tough to turn but worth the time and effort.
This wood is definitely hard and requires sharp tools. I sharpen 3 time just doing the bottom of the bowl. Sands well but you must have a mask and use a dust collector because of the fine wood dust your will produce.
The bowl blank was received in 48 hours after shipping. It was waxed on all sides. and i measured the moisture content of 7-8%. I was very happy with my purchase.
