Kiln Dried Tzalam
Tzalam (Lysiloma latisiliquum)—often called Caribbean Walnut or Mayan Walnut—is a dense tropical hardwood valued for its rich color, fine grain, and excellent stability. The wood ranges from light to medium brown with subtle golden or olive tones and occasional darker streaks, giving it a refined, walnut-like appearance.
Tzalam turns cleanly with sharp tools, producing crisp detail and smooth surfaces. Its fine to medium texture sands well and finishes beautifully, developing a warm, natural luster. When properly dried, tzalam offers good dimensional stability and durability for both functional and decorative turning projects.
Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, spindles, furniture components, tool handles, and decorative turnings.
