Bloodwood
Bloodwood (Brosimum rubescens) is a dense exotic hardwood prized for its intense red color and exceptional durability. Freshly cut, the wood displays vivid crimson to deep red tones that darken over time to a rich burgundy or reddish-brown with age and exposure to light.
Bloodwood turns cleanly with sharp tools, allowing for crisp detail and smooth surfaces. Its fine, tight grain and high density contribute to excellent strength and wear resistance, making it well suited for precision and functional turning projects.
Common uses include turning blanks, pens, tool handles, knife scales, inlays, and decorative turnings.
