Kiln Dried Sycamore
Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) is a light-colored hardwood valued for its smooth texture and subtle figure. The wood ranges from creamy white to light tan, sometimes with a faint pink or golden hue. When quartersawn, sycamore can display a distinctive flecked or lace-like pattern. Quartersawn blanks are sold as American Lacewood.
Sycamore turns cleanly with sharp tools, producing smooth cuts and good detail. Its fine, even grain sands easily and finishes well, making it suitable for both functional and decorative turning projects. When properly dried, sycamore offers good stability.
Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, spindles, platters, utility items, and decorative turnings.
