Kiln Dried Torrefied Douglas Fir
Torrefied Douglas Fir—also known as thermally modified Douglas Fir—is Douglas Fir that has been heat-treated to improve stability, durability, and color. The torrefaction process deepens the wood’s natural tone to warm amber and brown hues while reducing moisture absorption and movement.
Torrefied Douglas Fir turns cleanly with sharp tools, producing smooth cuts and good detail. The thermal modification enhances dimensional stability, making it less prone to warping or cracking than untreated fir. Its straight grain and medium texture sand and finish well, developing a warm, refined appearance.
Common uses include turning blanks, spindles, bowls, architectural accents, furniture components, and decorative turnings.
