Kiln Dried Shedua
Shedua (Guibourtia ehie)—also known as Ovangkol—is an African hardwood valued for its rich color, striking grain, and excellent turning performance. The wood ranges from golden brown to dark brown, often featuring bold black or chocolate-colored streaks that create strong visual contrast.
Shedua turns well with sharp tools, producing smooth cuts and crisp detail. Its grain is typically straight to interlocked with a medium texture, allowing it to sand cleanly and finish to a warm, natural luster. When properly dried, shedua offers good stability and durability for both functional and decorative turning projects.
Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, spindles, pens, tool handles, musical instruments, furniture accents, and decorative pieces.
Please note: Kiln-dried woods may vary in thickness by up to 1/4", but will usually be only 1/8" undersized due to surfacing.
