Leopardwood (Roupala montana) is a distinctive exotic hardwood prized for its bold flecked figure that resembles leopard spots. The wood ranges from light pinkish-brown to reddish-brown, with prominent ray flecks that create dramatic contrast and texture—especially when quartersawn.
Leopardwood turns well with sharp tools, producing smooth cuts and crisp detail. Its grain is generally straight to slightly interlocked with a fine to medium texture, offering good strength and stability when properly dried. Clear finishes highlight the striking spotted figure and natural color.
Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, spindles, pens, furniture accents, and decorative projects.
