Sapele (Entandrophragma cylindricum) is a popular African hardwood valued for its rich color, strength, and attractive grain. The wood ranges from golden brown to deep reddish-brown and may display subtle ribbon, stripe, or figured patterns depending on how it’s cut.
Sapele turns smoothly with sharp tools, producing clean cuts and crisp detail. Its fine to medium texture sands well and finishes to a warm, lustrous surface. When properly dried, sapele offers good stability and durability, making it suitable for both functional and decorative turning projects.
Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, spindles, vessels, furniture components, cabinetry, and decorative accents.

Good Wood
I don't normally buy wood online, preferring to locally source, but I have had great results from Got Wood, LLC. Regardless of species, their kiln dried bowl blanks are ready to turn, finish and exhibit. The 10" figured Sapele is particularly nice.
