Red Palm—also known as Coconut Palm or Palmwood (from various palm species)—is a unique, non-traditional “wood” valued for its dramatic speckled appearance rather than a true wood grain. The material features a deep reddish-brown to burgundy background filled with dark vascular dots, giving it a bold, exotic look. Red Palm turns differently than hardwoods and requires very sharp tools and light cuts. The material is hard and brittle, so stabilization or careful finishing is often recommended. When properly handled, it sands and finishes to a striking, high-contrast surface unlike any true wood. Common uses include turning blanks, pens, handles, bowls, decorative items, and accent pieces.
