Indian Laurel
Indian Laurel (Terminalia elliptica) also called Indian Almondwood—is a durable South Asian hardwood valued for its strength, stability, and attractive grain. The wood typically ranges from light to medium brown with gray, olive, or darker brown streaks that add natural character.
Indian Laurel turns well with sharp tools, producing clean cuts and good detail. Its grain is generally straight to slightly interlocked with a medium texture. It sands smoothly and finishes nicely, developing a warm, natural appearance. When properly dried, it offers good dimensional stability and durability.
Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, spindles, tool handles, furniture components, and decorative turnings.
