Yellow Cedar Burl (Callitropsis nootkatensis)—also known as Alaskan Yellow Cedar Burl or Nootka Cypress Burl—is a rare and highly prized burl wood known for its intricate figure, warm golden color, and exceptional turning qualities. Formed on the roots and trunk of Yellow Cedar trees native to the Pacific Northwest, these burls produce remarkable swirling grain, clusters of burl eyes, and complex feathered patterns that make every blank unique. The wood ranges from pale yellow to rich golden honey with occasional amber and light brown highlights. Yellow Cedar Burl turns exceptionally well with sharp tools, producing smooth cuts and crisp detail. Its fine, uniform texture sands effortlessly and finishes to a silky, lustrous surface that beautifully showcases its intricate figure. The wood also has a pleasant, cedar-like aroma during turning.
