Pomelle Sapele (Entandrophragma cylindricum) is a premium figured African hardwood prized for its dramatic, three-dimensional pomelle figure and rich color. The wood ranges from golden brown to deep reddish-brown, with the pomelle pattern creating a distinctive “blistered” or quilted appearance that shimmers with depth and movement.
Pomelle Sapele turns smoothly with sharp tools, producing clean cuts and crisp detail. Its fine to medium texture and interlocked grain sand well and finish beautifully, developing a warm, lustrous sheen that highlights the figure. When properly dried, sapele offers good stability and durability for both functional and showcase turning projects.
Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, vessels, spindles, furniture accents, and decorative pieces.
