Rainbow Poplar also known as Tulip Poplar is a visually distinctive hardwood known for its natural color variation. The wood displays a blend of black, yellow, purple, green, red, and brown tones, creating a soft “rainbow” effect that gives each piece unique character. Rainbow Poplar turns easily with sharp tools, making it a great choice for beginners and for projects requiring smooth shaping. Its fine, even grain sands quickly and accepts finishes well. Clear finishes help preserve and enhance the natural color variation. When properly dried, poplar offers good stability for light- to medium-duty turning projects. Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, spindles, decorative turnings, craft projects, and painted or clear-finished items.
