Thuya Burl (Tetraclinis articulata) is one of the world's most luxurious burl woods, prized for its exceptional figure, rich color, and unmistakable natural fragrance. Harvested from the burl growths of the Thuya tree native to the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, this rare wood is renowned for its intricate burl eyes, swirling grain, and remarkable depth. Thuya Burl ranges from warm golden amber to reddish-brown, often accented by darker veins and countless small burl eyes that create a mesmerizing, three-dimensional appearance. It turns beautifully with sharp tools, producing crisp detail and smooth surfaces. Its fine, dense grain sands easily and polishes to a brilliant, glass-like finish, revealing incredible chatoyance and depth. During turning, the wood releases a pleasant cedar-like aroma that adds to the experience. Because of its rarity and breathtaking figure, Thuya Burl is a favorite among experienced turners and collectors for creating high-end, heirloom-quality pieces. Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, hollow forms, lidded boxes, pens, knife scales, pipe making, decorative objects, and fine art turnings.
