Ribbon Sapele (Entandrophragma cylindricum) is an attractive African hardwood prized for its dramatic ribbon-like figure and rich, warm color. The wood ranges from golden brown to deep reddish-brown, with the interlocked grain creating distinctive striped “ribbon” patterns that shimmer across the surface.
Ribbon Sapele turns smoothly with sharp tools, producing clean cuts and crisp detail. Its fine to medium texture sands well and finishes beautifully, developing a warm, lustrous sheen that enhances the ribbon figure. When properly dried, sapele offers good stability and durability for both functional and decorative turning projects.
Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, spindles, vessels, furniture accents, and decorative pieces.
