Makore (Tieghemella spp.) is an attractive African hardwood valued for its rich color, durability, and refined figure. The wood ranges from light pinkish-brown to deep reddish-brown and often displays beautiful ribbon, quilted, or mottled figure that adds depth and visual interest.
Makore turns and machines well with sharp tools, producing smooth cuts and crisp detail. Its grain is typically straight to interlocked with a fine to medium texture, offering good strength and stability when properly dried. Makore sands cleanly and finishes to a warm, lustrous surface.
Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, spindles, furniture components, cabinetry, and decorative projects.
