Morado (Machaerium spp.)—often called Bolivian Rosewood—is a dense exotic hardwood prized for its rich color, fine grain, and excellent durability. The wood ranges from medium to dark brown with purple or reddish tones, frequently highlighted by darker streaks that give it a classic rosewood-like appearance.
Morado turns very cleanly with sharp tools, producing crisp detail and smooth surfaces. Its fine, dense grain and natural oils allow it to sand and polish to a high luster. When properly dried, morado is stable and wear-resistant, making it ideal for precision and high-end turning projects.
Common uses include turning blanks, pens, tool handles, knife scales, musical instruments, furniture accents, and decorative turnings.
