Brazilian Lacewood (Roupala montana) is a highly decorative exotic hardwood known for its dramatic flecked “lace” figure. The wood ranges from light pinkish-brown to reddish-brown, with bold ray patterns that create a striking, textured appearance—especially when quartersawn.
Brazilian Lacewood turns and machines well with sharp tools, producing smooth surfaces and crisp detail. Its grain is generally straight to slightly interlocked, offering good strength while remaining manageable on the lathe. When properly dried, it provides good stability and finishes beautifully, with clear finishes highlighting the distinctive lace figure.
Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, spindles, pens, furniture accents, and decorative projects where visual impact is key.
