Curupau (Anadenanthera colubrina)—also known as Patagonian Rosewood—is a dense South American hardwood prized for its dramatic figure, rich color, and exceptional durability. The wood ranges from golden brown to deep reddish-brown, often highlighted by dark streaks and bold contrast that give it a rosewood-like appearance.
Curupau turns cleanly with sharp tools, producing crisp detail and smooth surfaces. Its high density and fine grain allow it to polish to a rich, glossy finish. When properly dried, curupau is very stable and well suited for demanding turning applications and precision work.
Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, spindles, pens, tool handles, knife scales, musical instruments, and decorative turnings.
