Torrefied Ash—also known as thermally modified ash—is ash wood that has been heat-treated to enhance stability, durability, and color. The process deepens the natural tone of ash to a rich chocalate or medium brown while reducing moisture absorption and movement. Torrefied Ash turns smoothly with sharp tools, producing clean cuts and crisp detail. The heat treatment improves dimensional stability, making it less prone to warping or cracking. Its grain remains pronounced and attractive, and it sands and finishes well, developing a warm, refined appearance. Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, spindles, spindles, tool handles, furniture components, and decorative turnings.
