Green Hickory Needs Room to Shrink

Hickory is exceptionally hard, strong and tough, but it also shrinks considerably during drying.

Why it matters: A green Hickory bowl should be rough-turned with sufficiently thick, even walls so it can move while drying and still have enough material for final turning.
