Black Limba (Terminalia superba)—often called Korina—is an exotic hardwood prized for its striking contrast and bold natural character. The wood ranges from pale yellow to light tan, dramatically accented by dark brown to nearly black streaks and figuring that make every piece unique. Black Limba turns and machines well with sharp tools, producing smooth cuts and clean detail. Its grain can vary from straight to moderately interlocked, offering visual interest while remaining workable on the lathe. When properly dried, it provides good stability and finishes beautifully, especially with clear finishes that highlight the contrast between light and dark areas. Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, spindles, decorative turnings, furniture accents, and instrument components.

Occasional pinhead-sized insect holes are common in this wood, and are not considered a defect.

Poor quality.

The blanks I received didn’t match the images or descriptions I was lead to expect. One of the blanks looked ok with some ok figuring in it. The other two looked like a basic piece of wood with essentially no dark lines or figuring that I expected from black limba. I guess now I know for the future. I also ordered some ambrosia maple that was very low figuring as well. I was more satisfied with it than I was the black limbs but still.

All you have to do is contact us if you are not happy with the wood. We guarantee our blanks 100%. We also sell 2 grades of ambrosia one has light to medium figure and the other heavy figure. We try do describe our blanks and variations as best as possible in the detailed descriptions!
