Torrefied Poplar—also known as thermally modified poplar—is poplar that has been heat-treated to enhance stability, durability, and color. The torrefaction process transforms poplar’s pale tones into warm brown and chocolate brown hues while reducing moisture absorption and movement. Torrefied Poplar turns smoothly with sharp tools, producing clean cuts and good detail. The thermal modification improves dimensional stability, making it less prone to warping or cracking than untreated poplar. Its fine, even grain sands easily and finishes well, creating a refined, consistent appearance. Common uses include turning blanks, bowls, spindles, decorative turnings, and utility projects.
