Spalted Hard Maple is a highly decorative variation of hard maple prized for its dramatic black spalting lines and light background color. The wood ranges from creamy white to light tan, with bold dark lines and zones created by natural fungal activity, making each piece one of a kind. Spalted Hard Maple turns best with sharp tools and light cuts, especially in softer spalted areas. Its fine underlying maple grain allows for good detail, and stabilization or careful finishing can enhance strength where spalting is heavy.
